Not every cat carrier is suitable for bringing and picking your cat up from radio-iodine treatment. We recommend that cat carriers have a hard plastic bottom, sides and top so they can be easily cleaned. This is particularly important on your way home when your cat may be travel sick or have another type of ‘accident’ – both of which will be radioactive. The only exception is where your cat has a longer stay with us and returns home with background radiation levels.
This type of carrier is suitable for ordinary vet visits but not for when your cat has been treated with radio-iodine as fluids such as urine may soak through the soft material in the bottom. The materials sides and top are also hard to clean.
Casper demonstrating his trolley! In general this type of carrier, being soft, is unsuitable for radioactive cats. Casper stayed with us until his radiation levels were at background, hence why he was able to use his lovely carrier.
